This Month at the Movies - November 2022

November is set to be a big month for movies and marks the beginning of the silly season as Halloween melds into Thanksgiving. This means some huge blockbuster movies, not to mention the jostling of films vying for awards season consideration. Here are some of the top picks that are a must see in the cinema!
TOP PICKS

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The highly anticipated return to Wakanda will be a somber one as director Ryan Coogler returns to continue his epic story, this time without its lead actor, the late great Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is also set to feature the highly anticipated introduction of Namor the Submariner - one of Marvel Comics oldest and most formidable characters.
The aquatic nemesis of Wakanda is sure to draw comparisons with DC's Aquaman, however the character Namor pre-dates the DC hero and very much inspired his origins. To avoid comparisons director Ryan Coogler and producer Kevin Fiege have updated his heritage for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the Submariner borrows from Mayan, Aztec and Talokan myths - providing an interesting juxtaposition with the advanced African nation of Wakanda.
The film also features the returning Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong'o and of course introduces Tenoch Huerta in the role of Namor.
Black Adam
The long awaited film locked in development hell for what seemed like an eternity finally arrives in cinemas. Starring in the role of Black Adam is Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, along with Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate.
Black Adam tells the tale of the antihero and formidable foe to Shazam, in an action-packed origin story that also features the introduction of the Justice Society of America. There is even a cameo by the most famous superhero of all time.
The film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra also features Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Sarah Shahi.
COMING SOON
Avatar: The Way of Water
Director James Cameron returns to the immersive world of Pandora, with a sequel to his record breaking movie, which has been over a decade in the making. Technology has come a long way in that time, and with WETA Digital taking care of the creative visualisations once again the film is sure to be a feast for the eyes.
Unlike the original Avatar film, this story is set to explore the oceans of Pandora as the natives battle the invading humans once again. The film features the returning Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in what looks to be the must see film this Christmas holidays.
Until next time, see you at the movies!
