Marvel Reveals First Trailer for Avengers: Doomsday as Chris Evans Returns and Doctor Doom Emerges
Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, offering fans their first glimpse at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, while confirming the return of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the first trailer and poster for Avengers: Doomsday, giving audiences their biggest look yet at one of the most ambitious cinematic events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Arriving exclusively in cinemas on December 17, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday will bring together heroes from three distinct universes as they face an existential threat unlike anything they have encountered before.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo — the filmmakers behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame — the film marks the return of the acclaimed directing duo for another major Marvel crossover event.
While Marvel has kept much of the film’s plot firmly under wraps, the trailer delivers several major reveals for fans.
The footage confirms the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, while also revealing Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers. In one of the trailer’s most talked-about moments, Thor offers Rogers his iconic hammer, Mjölnir, with the weapon responding to him once again — a powerful callback for longtime Marvel fans.

The trailer also provides the first official glimpse at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom. The actor’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been one of the franchise’s most surprising developments, following his legendary run as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
However, the footage suggests Downey Jr.’s new role is separate from his previous character, with the actor appearing in full Doctor Doom armour and delivering dialogue that hints at the iconic Latverian villain’s distinct identity.
Despite these major reveals, Marvel is keeping the central story of Avengers: Doomsday a mystery. The trailer focuses primarily on the scale of the threat and the collision between multiple Marvel universes rather than revealing the film’s major plot details.

Avengers: Doomsday New Poster

The announcement comes as studios and exhibitors continue to place greater emphasis on premium theatrical formats. Following the success of event releases such as Dune: Part Two and its strong IMAX presence, the cinema industry has increasingly highlighted large-format presentations as a key part of attracting audiences back to theatres.
With the return of beloved characters, the arrival of Doctor Doom and the continuation of Marvel’s multiverse storyline, Avengers: Doomsday appears set to be one of the studio’s most significant releases in years.
